Electrical Layout Designer

Position as an Electrical Layout Designer for Switching stations and Substations within the Design Engineering group of DP&C. 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Development of station plan & profile drawings (conceptual, general & details) based on electrical one-lines for switching and substations 4 kV thru 500 kV. Utilizing Microstation.
  • Responsible for the procurement requests, review & approval process of materials & equipment. 
  • Provide field & construction support
  • Provide design work and support during system emergencies
  • Review and comment on electrical layout packages prepared by A-E firms and equipment vendor drawings with a focus on compliance with the client's standards, operational needs and safety. 
  • Off-hours availability to assist with emergency equipment replacement work and system restoration. 
  • Research, specify, requisition, track and stage sub & switching station minor equipment & materials.
  • Prepare/Review estimates and conceptual designs for Electric Delivery Planning and/or DP&C.
  • Coordinate, oversee assigned projects and provide liaison with Controls/Civil disciplines, Delivery Construction, Division personnel, A/E’s and contractors to include on site survey and support.
  • Review, update & develop design standards for AMCS & DP&C.
  • Mentor less experienced designers and provide guidance to new engineers & interns.
  • Provide documents, vendor prints, catalog cuts, standards and subject matter expertise with regard to inquiries from Divisions, SCM, contractors and internal customers.
  • Accomplish as-built drawing updates, electronic file version/integrity review and restoration to the Microstation drawing data base

s. Vendor Equipment Outlines & Nameplates 

• B.S in Engineering or Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
• Must have at least 3 to 5 years of switching and substation layout design experience in the electrical Utility industry. 
• Very good knowledge of Micro station/CAD software for development of construction drawings and familiarity with engineering and design standards. 
• Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to interface with many other disciplines in order to develop reliable and safe layout design. 
• Must have a valid drivers license.
