P6 Construction Project Scheduler

Academic/Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in Business or Technical Field and 5- 8 years related scheduling experience, or in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 9– 12 years relevant scheduling experience is required.
Scheduling for 2-5 project managers at any given time
Will be assuming project schedules that are in place or in progress
Also need to be able to build a schedule from a Project Diagram or a verbal Scope of Work
Need them to have experience with P6 where experience with Microsoft Project is a nice to have
Participating in project update calls throughout the day
Might go on project walk downs to review the work they are scheduling
Need strong interpersonal skills as they will be reaching out to Project managers, etc.
Schedulers will need to have the initiative to go and find the information that they need rather than waiting for updates
Need good analytical skills
Particular types of project experience: Civil, Electrical, Telecom or Gas company construction project Scheduling would be the likely pool from which these candidates could be pulled
P6 experience is required
Years of experience: will consider less than 5-8 if they have strong P6 experience
Out in the field: will visit each project at least three times (beginning, middle, end)
Types of projects: Electrical, overhead, relay, substation – typical electrical utility types of programs (electrical utility industry scheduling experience is not a must)
Size of projects: Typically from $500,000 and up ($25,000,000 at the top)
Team dynamic: team of about 14 schedulers; interface with PM’s based on the rhythm established between the PM’s and the Schedulers; most of the time working in the office with other Schedulers; lots of shared learning – meet as a team if there are things going on with particular projects that could be a good learning opportunity for the team; try to make sure the Schedulers are involved in the project planning as much as possible
