Smart Meter-IT Technical Specialist III

Business specific responsibilities: 
- Working under direct supervision of the SMOC Lead and coordinating with other technical teams including vendor teams to 
support the monitoring and sustainment of the metering network, infrastructure and the devices 
- Monitoring the AMI Network and identify network deficiencies via reports, real time data or outside processes/parties 
- Diagnosing basic causes of trouble when interruptions occur in meter or network communication issues and utilizing 
prescribed procedures to determine steps to be taken to restore communication 
- Prioritizing and categorizing incidents and initiating corrective action to ensure connectivity and minimize downtime 
- Interpreting and analyzing system data to investigate OpenWay Meters, Cisco Grid Routers and Range Extenders and determining validity of exceptions which includes identifying the issue, reviewing key data elements and determining required next steps 
- Creating trouble tickets and routing to appropriate group for resolution based on exception type 
- Reviewing meter and network device Notice of Shipment (NOS) files for accuracy, loading into appropriate systems and notifying appropriate departments of completion 
- Assigning attributes to installed Field Area Network devices, loading into the applicable systems and verifying device authentication 
- Validating installation status of smart meters using various reports and systems to verify completion and identifying 
non-communicating meters and identifying and resolving discrepancies 
- Removing Field Area Network devices from appropriate systems for devices that have been removed from service 
- Providing operational reports on network and meter incidents, performance and service level agreements 
- Identifying potential improvements to existing procedures or new procedure requirements 
- Processing exceptions relating to validation of data from smart meters 
- Analyzing data to validate accuracy in a timely manner 


Summary of Qualifications: 
- High school diploma or GED required with minimum 4 years of work experience required; experience in smart meter operations preferred 
- Associate’s degree in engineering or related discipline, or Technical school degree, with minimum 2 years of work experience required 
- Smart meter experience preferred 
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
- Working knowledge of utility industry preferred 
- Basic understanding of business process architecture preferred 
- Basic understanding of technology architecture preferred 
- Understanding of incident and performance management according to industry standards and best practices preferred 
- Strong written and verbal communication skills 
- Problem solving skills 
- Ability to follow process and procedure 
- Basic experience with network operating systems 
- Basic experience using databases and trouble ticketing systems 
- Working knowledge of network management and billing systems 
- Demonstrated good analytical skills to process information in a timely and accurate manner 
- Basic understanding of meter data
