Contracts Manager

Job Overview:

Lead contract lifecycle for engineering, electric and/or gas construction, LNG, CNG, and ancillary resources for the client's Distribution and Transmission Portfolio(s) delivering value to the business and their customers with safe and compliant contracted resources.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and manage value added commercial and contractual vendor relationships which ensure the delivery of construction and maintenance work within the agreed timelines, cost schedules, quality and safety standards within a risk profile that fully supports operating to the highest SHES standards to ensure company goals are met and the construction program delivery is consistent with company objectives, strategies and policies. 
  • Champion Bid Events for internal business stakeholders, translates business needs to contract language
  • Works with the PMs, Operations, and Procurement to support projects and operations on developing strategies for new contract initiatives, maintenance of current contracts, annual reviews with contractors, resolving and negotiation of contractor issues
  • Expert level consultative support to all regions on contract language issues, change order and dispute resolution;
  • Liaison to client's Legal Counsel on contract review, negotiations, and dispute resolution.
  • Lead initiatives to implement strategies of best practice; drive consistency across contracts, influence culture change in Contracting oversight and management - wholesale overhaul of contracts to bring them up to par with best practices
  • Monitor Health and Wellness of contractors, develops reporting necessary to communicate to stakeholders and management on status, provides clear and concise reports and status,
  • Supports all levels of contract management in execution including, detailed recording of all communications with the contractor, maintenance of archived communications with contractors and business stakeholders, written notices to contractors, e.g., stand down, suspension, termination, contract amendments, changes in scope, negotiation of disputes, etc.,
  • Contribute to the identification and formulation of strategic objectives specific to each contractual relationship in order to drive change and innovation. 

 

Knowledge & Experience Requirements:

  • Candidates must be adept in developing and interpreting contract terms, negotiating and managing contractors to the terms, expertise in written and oral communication, able to communicate and present to all levels of the organization
  • Position requires high level competencies in financial analysis, task scheduling, financial and schedule forecasting, and analytics
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including human resource management, negotiation and communications. Possesses the ability to guide people affected by a decision know what’s happening and is able to clearly articulate reasons for a decision
  • Experience of managing and integrating the work of a functional discipline and demonstrates the ability to provide direction, the appropriate structure and effective resourcing to enable colleagues to perform at their best. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities; organized, detail oriented, able to make independent decisions with high degree of confidence
  • Understanding of the operations of the electric and/or gas business including Operations and Engineering.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interpret information and analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation in order to clearly articulate the findings and anticipates obstacles and thinks ahead about next steps.
  • Demonstrates competency in conflict resolution, negotiations and reporting.  
  • Understands theory behind policies and processes and demonstrates the ability to challenge existing processes and ways of working e.g. taking action to avoid future crisis or create opportunities to improve existing practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Masters level in engineering and/or a business or legal discipline preferred.  Minimum of 7 years post-graduation experience in a number of roles requiring successful management of contracts, change, involvement in strategic planning and budgetary monitoring and control is preferred.
  • Self-managed, decisive and able to prioritize, organized and articulate, 
  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, SharePoint, Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 (not required, but desired). 
  • Travel required to site as needed with the expectation that this position will be 50% on the job site, travel to other regions to support ongoing efforts required.
  • Further skills that would-be a plus are earned value management, EVMS, certifications in contract management, project management, JD, other relevant disciplines.
